Links

a.k.a. You Link me...you really Link me!

links n : a large landscaped area for playing golf
    OOPS - Wrong one:
links n: A segment of text or a graphical item that serves as a cross-reference between parts of a hypertext document or between files or hypertext documents.

Ah, yeas...you knew it had to happen sooner or later.  Most all websites have a Links page, where we share with you what we consider to be great sites, useful sites, sites we visit often, other sites we've written, and sometimes websites we see that are terrible (see Galaxy Lanes below).

Clicking on any link below (the title of the website) will open up a new browser window and subsequent pages will update in that window.

Pages I wrote/write:

The Jim & Lance Show - Of course I'd put this one first.  This is the official website of The Jim & Lance Show.  We think, of course, that it's a great website.  You can find more about us on that website than you could by talking to our mothers.

Holly High School Class of 1980 - The official website of the Holly High School Class of 1980 Reunion.  I am the webmaster and the President of the Class Reunion Committee.  Whether I'll be involved in the next reunion hasn't been determined, but I had a blast with this one and will probably maintain the website all the same.

Jim Ferris @ Home - My old, original home page.  Don't go there.

Other Pages of interest, be it I visit often or it belongs to people I know:

Ebaum's World - A website I visit frequently that hosts funny/amusing/amazing video, photos, jokes, and the best Hate Mail forum I've ever seen.  Buncha uptight assholes writing hate mail to his website.

On Being Me - The ongoing website/blog of a very good friend of mine, mentioned elsewhere on my website.  I visit this site daily. You should, too.  She's hot.

Home Network Pro - Lance's website.  It is an invaluable site for those seeking information about setting up or troubleshooting a home network.  Lance also has a number of websites he's written and does a fantastic job of keeping my domain and the Jim & Lance Show domain up and running at Quality Internet Express.

96.3 WDVD - My favorite radio station.  I've been listening to 96.3 WDVD (Detroit) with all of its incarnation for about 7 years.  They've got Rocky Allen in the morning and Allyson, my favorite DJ, from 10:00 until 2:00.  She's awesome and it's a great radio station.

Cedar Point - This is probably my favorite place on the planet.  With the largest collection of Roller Coasters on the planet, if you're a thrill-seeker, this is as good as it ever gets.

Idiot.com - I visit this page frequently.  The owner has very similar views to my own and writes the way I do.

Galaxy Lanes - This is where I hang out - and have for over 7 years - at least one night a week (usually Friday night).  It's here that I sing - both by myself and with others - and have some semblance of a social life.  It's unfortunate that there's no photo of the place anywhere on the PATHETIC EXCUSE for a web site.  It looks like a kid did it.

Quality Internet Express - Also known by their URL of QIX.Net, it is they who supply the bandwidth and server space for JimFerris.org and for The Jim & Lance Show.  I used to be a customer and the only reason I left them is because they didn't offer broadband.  They were the best dial-up ISP I ever used.

Software:

Below are a few of the software applications that I use on a regular basis.  My purpose is to endorse them and recommend them to other people.  Each of the applications listed below I am a registered owner of.  I find them reliable, useful, easy to use, and well worth the purchase price.  I have included links to all of them for the convenience of my visitors.

Audio

I do a lot of audio work, mostly for The Jim & Lance Show webcast that we do on a more-or-less every-other-weekend basis.  Below are the applications I use for not only creating the files we use on the webcasts, but also creating and modifying sound files.

Audio Converter PRO is more than an upgrade to MP3 to Wav converter. It's greatly enhanced and very feature rich.

Mixcraft Recording Studio is like MP3 Audio Mixer on steroids.  WOW...what an enhancement over MP3 Audio Mixer. A Must-Have product!

Their MP3 to Wav converter is awesome because it imbeds itself in the right-click menu and works within Explorer, where most people who spend a lot of time with audio tend to be a lot.  Click the image above for more information.

They have a great MP3 CD burner with a great interface.  This application makes MP3 CDs very easily and their selection process is great.  It takes a lot of the guesswork out of the process.  Click the image above for more information.

This is one awesome application and is the application I use to create all of the promos I do for the Jim & Lance show, as well as voicemail messages.  MP3 Audio Mixer absolutely ROCKS!  Click the image above for more information.

This application is a very good alternative to some pricier CD labeling software and comes with some great artwork.  It is very easy to use and creates great labels.  Click the image above for more information.
Another product I use often is, coincidentally, called Acoustica also.  This product is what I used to actually record and manipulate sound files.  It is not affiliated in any way with the products from Acoustica.com (above) and in fact a Norwegian company called Acon Digital Media.  While you can, indeed, record with MP3 Audio Mixer (above), this application allows you to manipulate the files and add many special effects.   Click on the link above or the image to the right for more information.

This section isn't intended to put one application over the other, it's more to show you the many different applications and phases that are used in the production (at least on my scale) of sound files.  It can be a very time-consuming task and I'm often unhappy with things and have to re-work them many times to get it right.  These applications have proven to be invaluable tools.

Newsgroups

I spend a lot of time and bandwidth in Newsgroups.  I've tried many different newsgroup applications but once I found Newsbin I stopped looking.  Very configurable, extremely good support, and supports multiple connections, spam filters, thumbnails, and multiple servers.  There is NO BETTER binary downloader to be had, and I've tried just about all of them.  I have recommended it to others who have became dedicated users like me.  If you spend time in newsgroups get this program.  Click on the link above or the NewsBin logo above for more information.

I will add more software in a future update.

1595 S. Ortonville Road, Ortonville MI   248-627-6790

I've never fancied myself a food critic so I'm not really qualified to write a review of this restaurant, so I won't.  I DO know that it's my favorite restaurant in the world.  It's a small, unassuming family-owned restaurant located in Ortonville, MI.  Dennis and Michelle O'Malley are the owners and are two of the nicest people I've ever met.  They've been in business for 5 or 6 years now and we've been regular customers for just about that long.  It's a very comfortable, cozy place and they hire genuinely nice people to help staff their venue.  We've been in there many, many times and have never had a bad experience with either the food or the staff.  They serve the best New York Strip in the world.  I've eaten New York Strips in a very large number of restaurants and the O'Malley's Galley New York Strip is, hands down, the best one I've ever had.  I just can't say enough about this restaurant or the people who own it.  In fact it was because of my persistent nagging (?) that Michelle started making Key Lime Pie, which has become a permanent part of the dessert menu, and it is, once again, the best Key Lime Pie in the world.  I think they should change the name to Jim's Key Lime Pie. ;-)  In the near future I hope to secure a copy of the menu to post on this website to whet your appetite.  This is an absolutely fantastic restaurant and I think is better than Holly's two other "upscale" restaurants (Holly Hotel & Yosemite's).  If you're ever in the area stop in and order the New York Strip.  Your tummy will thank you.  After finally being able to get Lance to dine there with me it's become one of his favorite dining establishments as well.
